WIN Founder Lana Hempsall has written in Conservative Home that Britain’s disability benefits system, though created with good intentions, has drifted badly off course, with widespread abuse encouraged by a growing ecosystem of advisers, influencers and perks that make welfare more attractive than work. She argues that schemes such as PIP, the National Disability Card and Motability have expanded far beyond supporting those with severe disabilities, diverting resources away from genuine need and trivialising disability itself. Lana concludes that real reform must focus on preventing abuse, prioritising those with serious conditions, and providing practical workplace support that enables disabled people to contribute rather than trapping them in dependency.
