WIN Founder Lana Hempsall has written in The i Paper that Britain's PIP system, while well-intentioned, has expanded well beyond its original purpose and is no longer financially sustainable, with spending forecast to reach £41bn by 2030/31. She argues the sharp rise in claims linked to ADHD, autism, depression and anxiety reflects a system where diagnosis has become a gateway to payment rather than to treatment, diverting focus from those with severe and enduring disabilities. Lana, who is registered blind but has never claimed PIP herself, concludes that real reform means tightening eligibility around severity and introducing a income-based taper on payments, rather than resorting to the crude across-the-board cuts that would follow if the system's costs are left unchecked.
